About Lashell

Lashell Collins is an American author of romantic suspense. She walks to the beat of her own drum, but that’s okay ’cause she’s got a pretty good sense of rhythm. Basically, she’s a geeky, quirky, laid-back, rocker-loving kinda girl who’s married to a retired cop, motorcycle-riding, bad-boy alpha all her own, and she likes to write about sexy men who are sworn to uphold the law.

When she’s not busy tapping away on her laptop and living vicariously through her characters, she can usually be found watching Star Trek, listening to music, playing with her two Bernese Mountain Dogs, Gracie & Bella, stuffing her face full of Chinese food, or riding on the back of her husband’s Harley-Davidson.

Between her book characters and the ones she knows in real life, her plate stays pretty full. But she loves to hear from readers, so give her a shout sometime!

Why I Write What I Write

If you’ve found your way here, you probably already know that I’m a romance writer. I’m the author of thirty plus titles and I used to write paranormal romance and rockstar romance along with romantic suspense. But I’ve recently decided that, since romantic suspense is my first love, it’s the genre I’m going to focus on for a while.

If you’re interested in my other genres you can find them here: Paranormal Romance, and here: Rockstar Romance.

Now, why Romantic Suspense, you ask? Well, for starters, I married a cop. My husband worked as a K-9 Handler for a small town in Ohio, where we live. He was on the police force for 20 years before he had to retire after he injured his gun arm. While I don’t really consider myself a Badge Bunny, I do have a great deal of respect and admiration for law enforcement officers and the thankless job they do in this country, putting their lives on the line every single day when they leave their homes to go to work. Plus they simply lend themselves really well to the Romantic Suspense genre — the danger, the thrill, falling in love while the bullets are flying. That’s exciting stuff!

Like the rest of black America, I have been very disheartened the last decade or so, though, with all of the senseless killing of black and brown men and women at the hands of the police. And I'll admit, it has made me rethink what what I write. But in my stories, I can create a world where right always wins, and where no one is oppressed or killed because of the color of their skin. So that's why I keep writing it.

I hope you find something in my list of books that entices you. I promise to always give you a happily ever after. Enjoy!
